A classic aluminium MTB from a highly sought-after manufacturer of yesteryear.
This Klein Pulse RACE is from about 1997 - before the Klein brand was bought by Trek and 'enshittified', and was made in the original Klein factory in Chehalis, Washington. It features large diameter alloy tubing for a stiff and lightweight frame, alongside the quirky rear-facing dropouts and eye-catching paintjob that Klein were infamous for. FWIW, Klein was also the mountain bike of choice for none other than the fictional Jerry Seinfeld, as shown hanging in his apartment from season 3 onwards.
This bike has been left mostly original, and features a Shimano STX RC drivetrain (3x8) paired with a Sugino crankset + STX RC brakes, levers and hubs. It was probably modded in the past with some cool Bontrager 'Crow Bar Comp' handlebars, alongside a carbon seatpost and some very unusual DORCUS rigid carbon forks.
We've fully rebuilt it and fit new parts including Shimano 8sp cassette and chain, KOOLSTOP Salmon v-brake pads, Schwalbe Marathon Almotion tyres (26" x 2.15) and some colourful nylon pedals we had lying around.
This machine rides beautifully and is tons of fun. It would be ideal as a fun commuter / weekend bike that can also handle a bit of offroad and maybe the odd gravel adventure.
It is a 17" - roughly a medium / large, suitable for riders around 170 - 185cm.
